TOP LIST OF “TOUCHING” GAY MOVIES PART II

Hy.. welcome back to my top list of touching gay movies. Hope you still have curiosity to know my middle list of touching gay movies. Yeah, after taking a rest for a while, finally about two days ago, I’ve got my enthusiasm to continue this second part of my top list of touching gay movies. Okey, then let’s start the count down list.

07. Latter days

Yeah, this 2003 movie production is being the opening movie of my second part top list of touching gay movies. This movie is actually little bit difficult to be understood by me since I am not native who is difficult to understand English dialogue with certain unfamiliar idiom or vocabularies. However, I still can enjoy this movie much since the actors in it have ton of chemistry to make even the most tired plot devices seem new again. And that’s why for me this movie strives to be more than a romance. The fabulous acting of the main actors, in this case are Steve Sandvoss as Aaron Davis and Wes Remsey as Christian Markelli who can explore the gamut of human emotion makes me able to feel the tasteful and heart-warming side of the movie.

Actually, the storyline of the movie is cliché. It’s about two persons who have different background of life who fall in love each other. However, latter days offers up more than compilations of when the opposite attracted. The director C. Jay Cox knows well how to make cliché romance story into brilliant heart-warming movie which touches my heart and mind deeply.

Okey, perhaps, this movie I kind of deep cliché story but because of the lack quality and portion of supporting actors, this movie makes me getting bored when watching some scenes in it. For me, there was high gap between the main actors and supporting actors, especially in their quality of acting which make this movie little bit disappointed me. It also makes me loosing interest to watch some parts of the movie and makes me placing this movie in the 7th position.

But don’t worry, the movie is very profound and realistic in the threatment of sexuality and spirituality and enough to remind everyone of the higher purpose that sexuality serves on life. This movie will play havoc on the emotions you thought you had since the story is about seeking out and finding meaning in life, despite the difficulties and challenges, the pain and terror that stand in your way which was supported by the extreme chesmitry between two actors. As the proff of the brilliant directory of C. Jay Fox, he won some film festivals like audience award of outstanding first narrative feature in L.A Outfest, audience award of best feature gay male in Philadelphia International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, and audience award of best feature film or video in Toronto Inside Out Lesbian and Gay Film and Video Festival.

06. Shelter

Shelter is another cliché story aboput finding the real way for our own life to see the light of happiness. Because of thios movie, I started to have huge interest to watch and collect the qualified gay movies based on my qualifications, of course. And yeah, the power of the movie is on the hands of the chemistry among the characters. All of the actors of the movie are having such haigh quality in acting and liviung their character to be so real and authentic. Jonah Marko Witz as the director and riter of the movie is very excellent in making the realistic romance gay movie though it’s low budget. Yeah, for me it is a beautifully edited, spectacular looking and lustrous sounding film which is definitely characters driven. The film’s script is also being the power of the movie. It’s because the film’s script is rich in characterization and melodrama, dialogue contains some good subtext which deliver the romance power of the movie. Though this is gay independent film but colour cinematography is beautiful, and includes lots of super long shot and some lens flames production design is detailed and realistic which makes the romance aura of the movie feel so real for me. The sense of doubt, confusion, fear, even the loneliness all are really genuine. Because of all of that reason, this movie won several awards, like GLAAD media award for a outstanding film limited release, audience award for first dramatic featuire in L.A Outfest and other else.

However, I still feel not so satisfy with this movie. Though perhaps this movie is remarkable gay romance story but because of the slow running plot of the movie, it makes me boring during watching this movie. Unfortunately, I can’t explain in details why I got bored in some parts of the movie. Just download the movie from this link or this link

05. Get Real

Yeah, for the second time I put an old movie in my top list of touching gay movies after placing edge of seventeen. Just like the title, it’s about getting real which means coming-out to the people surrounding us as the real of us. Yeah in this movie, Steven Carter (Ben Silverstone) is coming out to his parents, friends, elders as a gay in his coming-age. Perhaps, the story of the movie sounds cliché but because of the intelligent scripted, well-crafted and exceptionally acted story, it makes the story genuinely remarkable story of a young gay man in finding his way through the adolescents wilderness. For me, this movie is both heart-wrenchingly touching and pleasantly funny without tidy endings. Simon Shore and Patrick Wilde know exactly how to accommodate the bitter sweet story and funny dialogues into a fascinating combination which makes this movie very moving and realistic.

If you wanna have different experience in watching gay movie just watch this movie since this movie is not apologetic and showing some of the not always appealing aspects of gay life. Besides that, this movie paints a picture that doesn’t necessarily have a happy ending but still leave a warm selling inside to the audience. Or if you wanna see another heart wrenching chemistry between two actors of gay movies, I also recommend you to see this movie since Ben Silverstone as Steven Carter is a genuine star who is pulling off the right mixture of pride and confusion excellently, and Brad Gortion is genuinely good as John Dixon, making me genuinely believe he is confused soul in confusing world.

Unfortunately, Simon share too much focus only on the conflict between the main actors and give less interest to the other actors who actually showed great quality of acting like Charlotte Brittain as Linda which makes me feel there’s something missing in some parts especially in some scenes which only showed one of the main actor with other supporting actors. It seems that the director pull aside the importance of parents and friends in the life of coming age teenagers. And, therefore I only placed this 1998 movie production in the middle position. But don’t worry because the director of the movie still won several award like from Edinburgh International film Festival and Dinard British Film Festival. So, if you have interest to watch this movie just download the movie from this link

04. Back Soon

Back soon is a story of love, loss, identity, and hope. It follows the relationship between aspiring actor Logan Foster (Windham Beacham) and reformed drug dealer Gil Ramirez (Matthew Montgomery), two men who find themselves inexplicably drawn together despite their disparate background, and the fact that they both regarded themselves as straight. However, their bond is soon threatened by Gil’s mysterious past and a startling revelation about the true nature of their connection. Neither man is prepared for this, nor the impact it will have on their lives.

Rob Williams as the director and writer perfectly know how to make the opening which is the quotation of T.S Eliot and the title itself being crucial compilation of the movie. When the first time read the quotation of T.S Eliot in the opening of the movie, I really didn’t have any clue what’s the function of the statements but then after watching the movie until the ending, I finally knew that the opening of the movie is the conclusion of the movie which perfectly combine with the title.

Honestly, I watched this movie several times and never get bored. I really enjoy watching this movie because of the soft plot and conflict but still touching in heart. I also impress with the choice of words in the movie. For me the dialogues between the casts are obviously sweet, funny and deep plus easy to be understood of course. And because of the smart idea of the maker, Rob Williams won the grand prize award of alternative spirit award in Rhode Island International Film Festival on 2007.

But because of some boring scenes, I only placed this reunion movie of Rob Williams, Matthew Montgomery, Windham Beacham and arti O’daly in 4th position. Yeah, for me there are some important scenes which actually can support the touch of the movie but because of the execution, those scenes seem useless and important and unconnected with the other scenes.

  5. I was looking for some recommendations on gay movie and this was not my first time doing so. However, my first catch of looking at this blog telling me that you are not native since so many english structures are put differently in your writing and i started noticing it is combination english+indonesia structure where i originally am from. what was wonderful about this is that you are indonesian, and you make such a blog. Nice work, and perhaps, indonesian gay people may be better of with this blog being written in bahasa indonesia. just a silly advice though.
